Habitat News • Habitat for Humanity to host Deals & Denim networking event Sept. 30 Introducing Prayer Corps: The easiest volunteer work is also the most important. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry—a movement that starts and ends with faith. We believe that God makes the outcome of our work greater than the sum of its parts. We see only a fraction of what happens every time donors, homeowners, and volunteers build a house together. Something happens that is eternal, invisible, spiritual. God does work in us as mysterious and wonderful as what happens in a caterpillar’s cocoon or in the soil of a farmer’s field. This is why prayer is the most important work of Habitat for Humanity. In prayer, we acknowledge that God owns the origin and outcome of the ministry. In prayer, we ask God to extend his power beyond our abilities and reach to change things deep in hearts and minds. In prayer, we open ourselves to God’s direction. In prayer, we remove ourselves as bottlenecks that hold back the full measure of blessing the community needs. Our goal in 2010 is to recruit hundreds and even thousands of people to pray every day for the people who give and receive service through Habitat for Humanity in Oakland County. We call this Prayer Corps. Here’s how it works: 1. Enlist as a member of Prayer Corps by emailing [ email ] . We will add you to the Prayer Corps email list. 2. Each Friday, you will receive a few words of inspiration as well as a fresh list of prayer needs from Habitat for Humanity’s homeowners, neighbors, partners, and volunteers. 3. As a member of Prayer Corps, you commit to pray over the Habitat for Humanity ministry every day through September 12, 2010 (the last day of our 2010 Building on Faith campaign). 4. Submit prayer needs or updates to [ email ]. We will include these in the next weekly email. That’s it. All we ask is for about 30 minutes a week in prayer. This is a perfect opportunity for volunteers who do not wish to do event management or home construction. Help us enlist our first 72 Prayer Corps volunteers by Easter (April 4).
